Along the shores of Lake Michigan, just north of the bustling life of downtown Chicago, families who love the area’s unique combination of urban life and natural beauty call Edgewater home. It’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to Edgewater real estate with its distinct blend of expansive beaches and parks that are famous for miles around, and the urban conveniences that are so necessary in modern life. The neighborhood boasts plenty of recreational opportunities from antique shopping, to theaters and music venues, while maintaining a distance from the noise and crowds downtown. The community is proud of its historic buildings like Edgewater Presbyterian Church and the Belle Shore Apartment Hotel, which line Bryn Mawr Avenue in the their Bryn Mawr Historic District. With so much to offer residents, it’s easy to see why the Edgewater neighborhood is rated so highly.
People who call Edgewater home have direct access to the wide variety of shopping and dining experiences in the area. Just strolling down the streets provides a glimpse into the richness of the community’s diversity, with its many international influences, offering a wealth of different restaurants, cafés, and other shops. With residents coming from so many different backgrounds it’s easy to find food from all over the world, in places like Ethiopian Diamond with its authentic Ethiopian food, or the famous Indie Cafe with its Thai cuisine. The local theatres such as the Jackalope Theatre Company and the Raven Theatre Company continue to offer an outlet for those who love the performing arts, and places like Broadway Armory Park as well as the Berger Park Cultural Center, provide their own unique offerings for recreational activities. The neighborhood’s main attraction though is antique shopping, and the Broadway Antique Market with its 75 dealers, remains Chicago’s largest antique mall drawing people from miles around. With so many different things to do in one community, boredom is not a problem in Edgewater!
Edgewater students have access to Nicholas Senn High School which was established in 1913 and is well respected for its education and deep history. Four of the elementary schools in the area, Goudy, Swift, Peirce, and Hayt, were all given an “excellent” rating by the Chicago Public School system in 2013. Aside from the high quality public school options, there are many private schools available to students in the area as well, including Northside Catholic Academy. Whatever educational option a family chooses, students are encouraged to grow and develop to their full potential and plan ahead for their future. Many of them choose to further their education close to home at Loyola University of Chicago’s campus. Edgewater is proud to be able to offer its residents everything they need to thrive in every area of their lives, and families who live in this diverse community deeply appreciate all it has to offer.
